Co-Creating Sustainability Solutions through a Transdisciplinary Learning Platform

This project develops an open-access online learning platform that guides students through transdisciplinary research. Using circular cocoa as a real-world case, it builds practical skills to co-create innovative, resilient and sustainable solutions.

What is the main objective of the project?

This project aims to develop an open-access, bilingual (EN/ES) online platform that guides bachelor's and master's students through transdisciplinary research using circular cocoa as a starting applied case, thus enabling hands-on, systemic, and collaborative learning across countries and contexts.

How will the project contribute to sustainable cocoa production?

The project strengthens sustainability by fostering innovation, resource efficiency and circular approaches (e.g. by-product valorisation), while building transdisciplinary skills and shared knowledge that support resilient, socially, environmentally and economically sustainable cocoa value chains.

What steps are taken during the project?

Key steps include co-developing the platform structure and methodology, piloting it through a cocoa by-product valorisation case in Switzerland and Ecuador, testing the platform with students and other stakeholders, and delivering a functional, open-access platform and reports.

How do you plan to communicate the outcomes to relevant stakeholders?

Outcomes will be shared through the open-access platform, reports, training materials and methodologies. All relevant outputs are non-confidential and will be disseminated via SWISSCO’s peer learning, knowledge exchange and external communication channels.

Where do you see the greatest potential for other stakeholders in the cocoa sector and beyond to learn from the outcomes of this project?

The greatest potential lies in the transferable transdisciplinary methodology that supports the co-creation of innovative and equitable solutions, which actors across cocoa and non-cocoa supply chains can adapt to address sustainability challenges, foster collaboration, and scale innovative solutions across regions and sectors.
