SWISSCO welcomes the Peace Dividend Initiative as a new member

The Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa (SWISSCO) is delighted to announce its newest member, the Peace Dividend Initiative (PDI). Based in Geneva, the Peace Dividend Initiative is a non-profit organisation committed to fostering peace and prosperity in conflict-affected regions worldwide.

PDI’s mission aligns with SWISSCO's dedication to sustainable cocoa production and ethical sourcing. The Peace Dividend Initiative is known for its remarkable work in post-conflict areas, where it aims to support communities in building sustainable livelihoods while contributing to peacebuilding efforts. Their impactful projects span several countries and also focus on the cocoa sector.

Cocoa and peace
For example, the “Manigua de Paz” Project in Colombia aims to boost income for communities by producing joint chocolate products, thereby contributing to economic development and peace in the region. Similarly, the “Sabores de la Sierra” Project, also in Colombia, focuses on establishing a sustainable community-operated chocolate business, which not only supports local cocoa production but also promotes economic stability and peace.

PDI is not confined to Colombia; they are initiating projects in Venezuela to empower cocoa farmers and support female entrepreneurs impacted by conflicts, promoting sustainable cocoa production and peace. Additionally, their projects in Bougainville and the Philippines empower female entrepreneurs in sustainable cocoa-based enterprises to enhance peace and improve livelihoods.

By joining SWISSCO, the Peace Dividend Initiative aims to streamline the operations of its cocoa and chocolate projects. SWISSCO's partner network for the importation, exportation, and commercialisation of cocoa products will be instrumental in enhancing the impact of PDI's initiatives.

Benefitting SWISSCO
Moreover, PDI brings a network of 600 mediators across 30 countries with expertise in conflict resolution, which can be a valuable resource for SWISSCO's industry members. The Peace Dividend Initiative will also share its new "+P impact methodology" with SWISSCO, assisting corporate members in building social cohesion and peace in fragile countries. Their extensive experience in working in hard-to-reach areas in Latin America and Africa will provide valuable insights and benefits to SWISSCO and its members operating in these regions.

SWISSCO looks forward to a fruitful partnership in promoting sustainable cocoa production, ethical sourcing, and peacebuilding in cocoa-producing regions worldwide.
